New Apartment Get!

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

So, long story short… I got a new place. The place actually, the very nice once I checked out last week, the one so nice that I was convinced that I wouldn’t get it (and for a while there, that appeared to be the case). But I did, so yeah, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

And of course, there’s a tale to tell, as is often the case for me (there was stupid shit going down till the very last second, and ever moment of it was pure torture), but I’m going to abstain from passing along the details until the time is right, and when I the time is just right (specifically, when I finally make the big move, which I’m still in the midst of planning), I will do so over at you know where.

But yeah, the past few days have been pretty crazy, especially late last week, when terms for my new home were being negotiated. The “yes, it’s yours” came late Friday afternoon… I had waited and waited all day at work for the verdict, with the intention of swinging by the realtors’ office afterwards, but when I heard nothing, I decided to head back to Brooklyn, with the assumption that the place was gone. Needless to say, when the voicemail I got once I got out of the train said it was a go, I felt the weight of thirty tons of bullshit lifted off my shoulder all at once. I felt so good that I decided to stop by Rocketship for the party that night, which I had planned on going, but was on the fence about all week.

The party itself was pretty decent. I gotta admit, I was very nervous going in…. it was my first encounter with various comic folks, and my first comic book related event, post-SPX and post you-know-what. In the end, I’m glad I went because I had a pretty decent time, despite some awkwardness; hung with some friends, ignored some others, and also took care of business that had to be taken care off. Oh, so the party was to celebrate the launch of Awesome, the Indie Spinner Rack anthology, and it was nice to know that memories of the dick-shot from MoCCA still lives on.

Saturday saw two social engagements: first was John and Marion‘s east coast wedding get-together, and it was nice to finally celebrate their union, and around the one year anniversary (they tied the knot in Oregon, and during last year’s SPX, which is why most people folks had to miss the event). Afterward was Jay’s birthday party at Joe & June‘s, and it was my first time hanging with them since they tied the knot, just one week prior. At John and Marion’s, they had a comic adventure starring both of them on a honeymoon adventure and which guests, including myself, had to fill in the dialogue. I had them end up at McDonaldland Training Camp when I immediately realized once starting that I didn’t know how to draw Ronald McDonald (I gotta admit, MK having them end up in the Matrix, which meant she didn’t have to draw any background in the final panel, was kinda genius). Meanwhile, at Joe and June’s was something somewhat similar; we played a board game where everyone had to write down answers to questions read out loud, and then all the responses are compiled for someone else to figure out who said what, which meant plenty of funny/jokey/retarded/racist answers (since Jay’s a Jew and all). Though nothing was funnier than Joe’s response to Jay’s comment about the TV being dusty (“Yeah, we did that on purpose.”), which seriously made me laugh for like three solid minutes, and no I wasn’t drunk. At John and Marion’s thing, I had this awesome warm chocolate cake, and at Joe and June’s I had a snow cone made from their Snoopy sno-cone machine. Point being, lots of joke writing and eating that day.

And on Sunday, I went out to Queens to hang with Hilary. She cooked up some totally awesome pasta and I was introduced to her dog Elvis, who is not only both ugly yet quite cute, but has the largest dog cock I have ever seen, at least for such a pooch his tiny size. I also got to witness Hilary take care of the newborn kitten she recently (and somewhat reluctantly adopted), and even helped a tiny bit when it began to cough (which meant going online and checking to see what the color of its urine and feces meant… which unfortunately was not that great), and which in turn led to an appointment with an expert. Since then, I believe its received some shots and is hopefully doing better. We also swapped horror stories from the GW, which is the dorm we both lived in while going to SVA, and I believe we were both in the same room, albeit at different times. Which will make her choice for the UNLUCKY she will be illustrating all the more fun…

So yeah, not a particularly action packed weekend, but after the week I had, I really needed something nice and mellow. The highlight of yesterday was the sealing of the deal of the apartment. Now I just have to worry about the migration, and with a little over a week to go, I’m already really behind. I was under the impression that today it was going to rain here in NYC, so I didn’t want to get a bunch of cardboard boxes to only get wet. But of course it didn’t. It was also round 78 degrees today, and I totally hate to complain about the weather, because that’s what old people or those who have nothing going on talk about, but I am so sick of this crazy warm weather. It’s the fall, so I want fall weather damnit.

Anyhow, I’m really looking forward to things normalizing. There’s so much going on, and I feel like I’m missing out, especially in the world of video games. But I have appointments coming up with Nintendo and EA soon, so I’ll be back to reporting on games soon enough. Though I still at least have the forums. Speaking off, for those of you who haven’t been keeping up, or perhaps need a hand, you might want to check out…

- Talk about Bionic Commando returning and Street Fighter 4.

- As well as plenty of talk about Orange Box, plus continued Halo 3 discussions.

- The awesome video game clothing thread.

- A totally hot looking piece of homebrew DS software, perfect of DJs.

- Massage Me, the wearable, massage driven video game controller.

- Why games for girls continues to suck.

- The seeds for the next Fighting Weapon Battle.

- The obligatory food thread, featuring pics of me breaking my no soda rule in America!!! Though truth be told, it was only done because Pat is all into Jones Soda.

- Yet another shitty comics thread, this one attempting to teach kids out there hard lessons.

- Even more hackery, this time with a NES and… a Nike?

- Pretty much the coolest cat ever…

- The Vendingmachine Broadcasting System…

- Giant girls.

- Even more (translated) comics from Shintaro Kago. Check out “parts” four, five, six, and seven. All of them are NSFW, but SO fucking awesome and totally worth checking out when you can.

- The fort90forums’ take on the “drunk thread”, but done right.

- At long last, footage of the much sought after E.T. porn.

- And me as a toaster.

That NES Nike shoe blows away the 360 shoe controller.

Glad the new place is working out for you!

Sorry I’m a slacker at visiting your forums too.

    Wow, hey, I can’t view your forums at work ;_;

Bright side, I only have 5 more days of work. Dark side, I probably won’t be on the internet as much after I get out of this job. Other side, I’m exceptionally sick of SB and how far from the tree the apple seems to have fallen, but too bored at work and there’s nothing else….
