Its Time Has Come

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

So real quick, a friend of mine passed this along: an article that talks about a new clinic opening up to offer treatment for vide game addiction.

And as crazy as it may sound, I believe the time for such a thing has finally arrived. I personally know a number of folks who’s lives are being ruined by habitual and nonstop video game playing. Like lots of other stuff, such as booze and gambling, if done in excess, it can be nothing more than just something to fill some emotional void. Though unlike most other folks, my justification for not playing MMOs is not that I’m “afraid” that I’ll become addicted, but its just that they’re really huge wastes of time.

Also, Joe passed this along: the official site for the live-action Transformers flick. I was confused by the countdown at first, since it ends in less than a month and film comes out next year, but I was then informed that its when the site goes totally live, with (hopefully) tons of info. Which is when I’m sure I’ll finally have more than enough reasons to get all angry and depressed. Though I will say now that I’m not a big fan of that eye.

He also just found out that Soundwave is a helicopter (guess Joe missed out on me having a conniption when I first heard the news). But something which I hadn’t heard before which Joe has heard is that fucking Bernie Mac is in the movie. I guess Cedric the Entertainer wasn’t available of something. Anyway, I hope to God he’s some human and not one of the voices.

Though then again, he could be decent as the voice of Jazz.

Also, why in the hell is Hard Gay not a super-mega superstar here in the United States?! Jesus Christ people…

Anyway, some last MoCCA mentions: at this point, I’m finally over not having too much at the show. My biggest dilemma right now is figuring out what to wear; hey for such a big nerdy affair, one has to dress for the occasion. The rule of thumb, at least for me is, if its a comic book oriented thing, then I wear a video game shirt. If its game oriented, then a comic related shirt all the way.

The one thing I’m most looking forward to is seeing familiar faces, as with any show. MK & I later tonight will be checking out evening the Rocketship party even though I really don’t go to many of the shindigs that pop up around any comic show; there’s often so much going on that it gets almost gets a bit overwhelming, so I usually just go “fuck it” and simply head home to rest up. And I’m assuming that others might feel the same way, so I might try to do a small BBQ thing Saturday night once again (though you can never tell with the weather, especially last year). Also, MK’s not feeling so hot, hence another good reason to keep a low-profile.

Anyhow, I’m especially psyched that my roommate Steph is coming to the show (and she is as well); at first I felt bad when I pointed out that her paintings might be a tough sell at their price, especially when most original art sold there will be around the $5-$25 mark (since its mostly prints), but in the end her work is worth any price that she chooses to ask. Plus, I sometimes forget that MoCCA isn’t so much a straight-up comic book show but more of a hip indie art gathering. Which I really can’t complain about of course… that is when someone is leafing though your book and they instantly drop it because they hear David Cross is nearby (not that I have anything against David Cross, of course).

Anyway, should be a good show!

So THAT’S why you’re always wearing that Katamari shirt when I see you! I was starting to think you just didn’t own any other clothes…

Oh yeah… well I certainly know what shirt not to wear this weekend!

    Hahah at Liz’s comment…
