“Garlic Bread Unlocked!”

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Happy Halloween everyone! Today’s the perfect day to… look at pictures of costumed folk, am I right? Like from New York Comic Con, maybe? Sorry, but my NYCC 2014 wrap up will have to wait just a tad bit longer; am about to head down to Castle Wax Eye in a few, so I just don’t have the time.

Watching bad horror movies while drinking candy flavored booze, plus eating candy flavored… candy is a legit 12 hour affair, so the Halloween hijinks starts at noon sharp! But since I do have some time to kill, and because it’s also Friday, aka the day I normally post my personal fave vid game vids, or at least am supposed to…

- For starters, here’s a guy dressed as Rockman at a Rockman themed event at some Japanese theme park. Though instead of cool Rockman-esque rides, visitors simply go on regular plain rides to get stamps that can be redeemed for goodies (or at least I think that’s how it works). The park’s primary attraction appears to be motorized pandas, so I guess it makes sense that you can grab a sticker of Rockman riding one.

There’s also Rockman themed seaweed, served with ramen at the park’s restaurant, one that’s completely deserted. As is the rest of the place. If seeing some dude dress as Rockman eating Rockman adorned food, at a theme park celebrating Rockman that’s completely desolate, doesn’t speak volumes of the character’s current status, I don’t know what does.

Though to be fair, maybe this was before the park opened or poor weather is simply to blame (you can tell it’s raining that day). Via Destructoid

- Sticking with Capcom for a bit, and via Tiny Cart, here we have Monster Hunter if it starred cats…

- Meanwhile Kotaku recently posted a short that highlights an Austrian gentleman’s crazy ass game collection. There are many reasons why I really like him, but near the top of the list is how he’s a collector who actually plays the stuff he owns, instead of keeping everything all sealed and locked away. Games are meant to be played, dammit, which this guy does…

- Perhaps you’ve seen the trailer for the game Hatred? If not, consider yourself lucky. For the rest of us, let’s enjoy this modified version which kinda/sorta washes the nasty taste in the mouth that the original leaves behind…

- Just a few seconds into this trailer for Collider, I immediately had to say to myself: ”Gee, I bet whoever made this is be a fan of Rez”. And turns out, I was right

- Am always down for a good old-fashioned glitch video, especially one featuring a PSone game, which often contains super shaky polygons to begin with. The game in question is Hokuto no Ken, aka First of the North Star. Thanks to whatever the author of the vid has done, it now partly resembles a Herbie Hancock music video…

- There’s also nothing like seeing a father and son bonding, especially when it’s over video games. But when the end result is an information created specifically for other members of the family to upgrade to a Sega Genesis, well, this is kinda the most touching thing ever…

- And sticking with Sega, one of the all time classics for their 16-bitter, comes a near hour ode to Streets of Rage. Now, fan interpretations of their fave games are a dime a dozen, but this one’s different, if only cuz it goes the extra mile of basically recreating the source material in more or less real time. Enemy encounters play out exactly as they do in the game, especially as they pertain to the length once again. Also, is any of the backstory embellished? Nope. So it’s just one fight after another, after another, after another, after another…

… Guess that it’s for now. But for those wanting more, along with something more in the spirit of today, simply head on over to Attract Mode where I posted my picks for the games you should play this Halloween, which includes full playthroughs for a couple titles.
