- So here are a few pics from Saturday’s Giant Robot show. There was tons of awesome pieces on display, but my favorites had to be Aaron Renier’s…
… and Sara Varon’s…
I took a bunch more pics of the artwork, but some didn’t come out so hot. But hey, I guess that’s all the more reasons for folks to go out to the store and check it all out in person!
As for the rest of the store, its filled with oodles of cool stuff, as one would expect. I’m actually thinking about getting one of these cute little USB drives.
I also went nuts over the sad little ghost stuff, but it the price scared me away (no pun intended).
And we all know how the Japanese love producing little plastic toys based on the craziest of things. Well they’ve finally topped themselves with the Akira Kurosawa collection. Now can finally have a little tiny plastic Kurosawa yelling at a drunken Mifune on the set of Yojimbo!
Unfortunately my camera decided to stop working by the time I got to the chiptune event later in the evening. Near the end, I sorta wanted to ask that geeky girl for email so she can send me the pics she took. Oh well, at least I have my memories of David Sugar to keep me warm…
- Yesterday during lunch I went to Toys R Us hoping that Shadow of the Colossus and/or Soul Calibur 3 would magically be there, and alas they weren’t. Have I ever mentioned how annoying game shopping is in New York? Ever since the independent stores all went out of business, its become a major fucking pain in the ass. How I miss Game Express.
Anyway, I picked up Ninja Gaiden Black, Burnout Revenge, and We Love Katamari. For a while I debated on getting Finny the Fish, the fish RPG but I think I saw a copy for $10 at a Gamestop a whiles back. But when I got home last night I never even got the chance to play any of them because…
- I had a ton of mail waiting for me, including Gunstar Super Heroes sent by my new friend Jennie at Sega! Plus she was awesome enough to also pass along a rather nifty Japanese Gunstar poster! I would have taken a pic, but you know…. busted camera.
Also waiting for me was the bizarro book of medical maladies from the 60′s (and it’s in German!) that Katie sent. It’s totally nuts!
She also made another mix CD for me. I forgot to mention that a while ago she gave me some music from the Animal Collective, a folk group that pretends to be animals in all their songs. Yeah, pretty nuts, but I like it.
Plus there were assorted magazines in the mail, including Blender which some friends wonder why I even receive, but I have a friend who works there that hooked me up with a comp subscription. The cover to the latest issue is awesome because it features Natalie Portman looking completely cracked-out. I love it when actresses try to “break out” of their images in dumb-ass ways. I mean, Jesus Christ, look at this shit!
But alas, not in the mail were some freelance checks that I’ve been waiting forever. You know, tis the season!
