“Smells Like Ham In Here”: New York Comic 2010 Part 2

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

So where was I? Oh yes, cosplayers! I remember the kid dressed as Mega Man last time, and this time he brought a friend…

It’s Pee Wee!!!

Not sure if she’s supposed to be from anything or just all decked out for lolita Sundays, but I was impressed nonetheless…

Oddly enough, this here was the only Phoenix Wright related cosplay I saw the entire weekend…

And here’s a guy dressed up as Alex Cox. Just kidding! It’s the real deal, at his new digs…

… I still miss Rocketship something fierce, but am glad to know he’s already doing something else to make comics a better place.

Nearby was Colleen and Travis

And here I am showing Travis how it’s done…

… Travis is actually one of the biggest proponents of the fort90 podcast! Again, we shall wait and see.

Moving onto mecha, Gundam had it’s biggest presence yet! I would totally buy all those if I knew how to put shit together…

… Yes, that a Gundam model based upon one in a show, which is about kids putting together Gundam models. How meta.

Tron Legacy was being pushed heavily, obviously. Here’s some of the products we can all expect very soon…

The new Blu-ray release of all the Alien movies was also promoted hardcore. Folks could watch the trailer in the same pods that crew of the Nostromo utilize when sleeping in space…

… God I still love that logo.

Not sure what this was, but it was outside, and kinda cool looking…

Made a new friend that weekend! None other than Seibei! That’s his shoulder you’re seeing, way too the left…

… Really nice guy! Everyone will be seeing pics of me wearing the T-Rex feigning for tacos shirt that I picked up in due time.

Fun-fact: I was actually friends with Gerard Way back in SVA! We sorta lost touch once he became a rock star. Glad to know he’s doing comics again, and that they’re making toys based off of them…

And again, since my head was up my ass, I totally neglected to pick up business cards for the booths that were featuring the following. When I have the time, I pop on over to Tomopop to figure out names and URLs. Sorry about that…

Though I do remember where these following pic are from. Via ESC-TOY LTD

… Was even able to chat a bit with the company’s founder and key driving force Eric Scarecrow. Another really great guy! All his stuff is neat, though what got me all hot and bothered was this…

… Which is coming out again! It was discontinued a few years back, so I’m ecstatic that it’s making a return. Cuz I know a bunch of folks who would love to get their hands on them and do wonderful thing! Stay tuned.

Interesting choice of Pokemans to say the least…

I still have fond memories of the guy dressed up as Batman and eating bats in front of a large gather of tired and confused con goers. Well, he’s still not back, but on the same exhibition stage we have a Navi Jedi master…

My last walk through of the floor revealed these totally hawt MGS: Peace Walker models…

Before heading out, I made one last trip to the anime artist alley, in hopes of running into Dave, so I could return his Harry Potter tie (which I borrowed a few Halloweens back, and he’s doing the lightening scarred head again this year). No such luck. Though I did run into Hamlet Machine! Too bad the pic of us striking a pose came out all blurry, so here’s just me and Hilary once again…

As I exited, ran into Loki! God I hope he looks like this in the movie and not all lame…

By far the most popular cosplay of the entire show was Scott Pilgrim. Well, Romona Flowers, but usually a Scott was always nearby. So figured I should at least take a pic of one…

And on my way home, I ran into a girl dressed up as a Japanese vending machine…

I guess that’s it? Oh wait, there’s still the fort90 X dmauro yaoi comic, which is totally SFW btw, and that’s coming up next!

That JDM vending machine costume is pretty inspired.
