“Video Game Unity”

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Daily Show last night made fun of this: a video on MTV featuring video game characters encouraging people to vote. Note: Mac users will need to download the vid here.

It’s a novel idea at best, but the song sucks and the mo-cap is very mo-cap-ish if you get my drift. But it’s worth watching just for the inane randomness. Thrill to…

- Sonic the Hedgehog and Scorpion (from Mortal Kombat) playing chess!
- Crash Bandicoot doing yoga in the park!
- Spongebob Squarepants hanging out with Leisure Suit Larry!
- Laura Croft and BloodRayne getting all soulful and shit.

… Plus tons of other game characters that I don’t recognize but probably would if I played more EA titles. Note the the conspicuous lack of Mario; poor guy endorses Nader back in 2000 and he’s still getting heat from it.

I guess one GAFer put it best: “I’m just glad Chewbacca is finally getting off his lazy ass and doing something.”

BTW, this is apparently from a whole show on MTV where they take game characters and have them perform songs. Another one can be found on that same download page and features BloodRayne, Leisure Suit Larry, and others doing the Vines. And yeah, it’s pretty much as stupid as that sounded.

Dude I been watching that show. Dear lord is it god awful. Come on characters from Fight Club the video game (shudder) dance around very poorly. Hey Blood Reign girl move around like you have a stick up your butt while sort of singing to Evenescance. I’m not sure how that show is supposed to make videogames cool. But I think I’m no longer the targer demographic.
