The Home Stretch

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

December is here at last, which means 2012 is finally coming to a close. Thank God. In many respects, this year kicked lots of ass, but in many others, it was also completely and utterly heartbreaking. Though I’ll get into all later, for my end of year wrap-up. Maybe, what’s been going on since I last check in? Well…

Spent Thanksgiving with Dave and his family in Long Island. As already noted over at least once already, one holiday tradition is to bond over Sega’s triumphs and tragedies, plus clean out Dave’s former bedroom closet (that last part is mom likes the most)…

Also got to hang with Michele & Rob’s new dog…

And what’s after Thanksgiving? Black Friday of course. Thing is, as a person who has fairly esoteric tastes, who also pretty much has everything he wants already (save for the $500 Metal Gear Rex statue, which I’m still trying to forget about), not much catches my eye these days. But there are always exceptions…

Speaking of, the day after Thanksgiving was spent hanging with Joe and Mike, since it was a chance for the bros to hang, I naturally brought over my copy of Miami Connection. Which they loved to death, as expected.

Unfortunately, I totally missed the rescheduled midnight screenings that recently took place, but at least Steve was nice enough to pass along a postcard that they had at the one he caught…

The temperature has really dipped here in NYC, and what’s the best way to stay warm? Ramen shops, naturally. Though such places also serve all kinds of awesome food, like these crazy looking meat buns at Rai Rai Ken that Colleen and I absolutely feel in love with…

And Menkui Tei also recently began serving beef bowls. HUGE beef bowls…

Have you seen Example Show on Netflix Instant? If you haven’t, you totally should…

And not just because of the guy who moonwalks while operating a laptop…

On a related note, I recently went furniture shopping at Ikea. And here we have Colleen modeling the latest Laptop laptop by LAPTOP…

Unfortunately, fun time was officially over when Colleen was attacked by a large stuffed python…

Here’s another pic from where I teach. As you can see, Marist is fairly ahead of the curve in various respects…

In case anyone is wondering, yes I’m still addicted to Persona 4 Golden, and yes I’m still posting pic of my attempts at having sex with the girls in the game (and creeping lots of people out in the process). Unfortunately, at the moment, either some are playing too hard to get or I’m trying way too hard period…

My favorite part of the game, btw, is when I’m hanging out with one gal pal, and then another crosses our path…

Unfortunately, due to various circumstances in the real world, which again is neither here nor there, I’ve have to tone down my playtime considerably. But at least I’ve gotten to the part in which I go to go swimming with the girls (or least try to)…

BTW, I wrong about one thing in my write-up: you CAN dress the ladies in embarrassing outfits while dungeon crawling!

Oh, so instead of a dedicated case, I tote my Vita around with an old sock that Nickelodeon Magazine staffers got for Christmas one year…

Speaking of, I finally pulled out my tiny, Charlie Brown-esque Christmas tree…

Also, the Xmas tree sellers from upstate, who always set up camp across the street from my apartment are finally here. Plus they brought a homemade Snoopy along…

And just last night was Raina‘s homecoming part for Drama. It’s the first party I’ve ever been to where the cooler had both PBR and juice boxes…

As for today, did some work on the zine, plus took care of related administrative business…

Yup, the indeed is reaching the home stretch. Unfortunately… and I know some people are going to scream “come on, give me a f*cking break”, but… there might be yet another slight delay. But not by much! Just a few days. Mostly due to the fact that there has been some delays on the printing side of things.

Oh, also, a close friend of mine recently passed away, and I’ve sorta been (among other related things) arranging his a memorial gathering on his behalf. Basically, shit has been real these past few days. And hence why this year has sucked so much in my book.

Anyhow, the new date to know, as well as the LAST one also… and this being the delivery date day (meaning, I’m hoping it will be in most everyone’s mailbox by, at least those who live in the US)…

12/21/12

K, time to wrap things up with a rundown of recent posts on Attract Mode, for those who might have missed them.

And last time, I mentioned a few other bits of awesomeness were due to make an appearance in the shop. So hot on the heels of the Fangamer VERSUS Attract Mode prints, we also have the Metagame and Kyle Fewell’s totally amazing contribution to Comics Vs Games

Once more: did another game related Instagram dump

Hey, did you know that Timothy Leary owned a Nintendo Power Glove? Well, he did

Sega Rally Championship RC Cars Project is pretty much exactly as the name implies

And STYN combines print making and pinball

One last thing, and back to being in the home stretch; the LA Game Space Kickstarter has 4 just days left! It still hasn’t reached its goal, so it now needs everyone’s support more ever. Thankfully, there are also more reasons than ever to contribute, like the sexy new Bryan Lee O’Malley designed shirt!

[UPDATE] Along with this ultra fab Meat Bun designed tee…

And for those of you who cannot (or wish not) contribute via Kickstarter (like folks who are not in the United States) can also do so, and also net five long out of print chiptunes albums in the form of NES cartridges, or a super special edition LA Game Space cart!

Finally, it’s been so heartwarming to see so much love and support for the project, and across the globe! And representing this of us in NYC that wants so badly to see it happen is Batsly Adams, in the form of a test run for a SNES-ethernet adapter that he just completed…
