This year’s IndieCade in Culver City, which in the past has been described as “the video game industry’s Sundance”, is this weekend. And with 113 officially selected games, the 2013 edition of the festival looks to be both the biggest and best one yet.

But the thing is, even more can and will be found; up and coming indie game makers will comprise a large chunk of the gathering, and many will have their handiwork handy. Which they hope to get into the hands of distinguished colleagues. One such person is Andy Wallace, and one such game is Particle Mace.

Andy is a fellow New Yorker, though I’ve yet to meet the guy. But earlier this summer, a friend of a friend showed me Andy’s game that him and other pals are playstesting. Been hopelessly hooked every since. It’s definitely one of those things that needs to be experienced; the above may look a lot like Geometry Wars, but trust me, it’s not.

Fending off enemies and demolishing asteroids in a super tight/shape-shifting arena, not with bullets but with a large thing you swing around, is loads of fun by yourself. But it becomes the ultimate party game with friends. Want to give it a shot? Drop Andy a line here. And if you’re in LA, be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for Particle Mace!
