I’ve got the blues, big time. Why? Because I’m not in Tokyo, Japan at this exact moment. Which is an awesome place to be generally speaking: you’ve got thriving arcades, beef bowl and curry rice shops at every turn, plus let’s not forget cat cafes.

But in less than 24 hours, there will be a massive convergence of the finest chiptuners from across the globe, and of epic proportions, no exaggeration. All gathering for Blip Tokyo 2k12. Which, as previously noted, is set to be the last Blip for the foreseeable future.

Everyone who will be in attendance are damn lucky, that’s all I can say. But at least the rest of us have this fab flyer in the form of a SNES ROM. Code by Batsly Adams, gfx by KeFF, music by Zabutom. For maximum effectiveness, run the file in your emulator of choice.

There’s still 18 or so hours left till showtime, I believe. Guess it’s better late than never to check for ultra last minute deals on flights!

The above is the handiwork of German designer Hannes Hummel.

First he took a vinyl figure, got rid of its head, and replaced it with a toy TV/VCR combo. Next he inserted the guts from a Game Boy Advance into the new head, but not without soldering a chip that also allows full motion video playback, web & file browsing, plus support for various console emulators, so it can play more than just GBA games.

Oh, and everything is controlled with a NES controller. Simply amazing isn’t it? BTW, Hummel also made some kind of arcade machine for We Don’t Work We Play, a recently wrapped German exhibition that celebrates handmade type.

No info is available, other than a video featuring super cool German folk having fun with it, which can be seen here. The project will be online soon, Hummel says, and I can’t wait.

Thanks ALBOTAS for the heads up on the Super Gigan!

Was going to include the above in a big-ass Tumblr image dump that I’ve planning for some time now. But since my schedule is all kinds of wacky, not sure when that might happen and simply wanted to share it ASAP.

A long-time pal of Attract Mode, Lamar states: “here’s the first page of a comic i’m trying to make in time for [The Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival]. kind of a horror comic experiment.”

I really hope Lamar gets it done in time, cuz that means he’ll be swinging by NYC for the show, which also means a chance to hang. With the best part being the chance to watch him beat various NES & SNES games for my amusement, and in just one sitting!

You should have seen how he plowed through Mega Man 4 with no fuss or muss. BTW, this might be a good time to mention that new products will be making their way to the Attract Mode shop very soon, including a little something by Neo Rama himself. Stay alert!
