Over the weekend was BitSummit, the first conference dedicated entirely to indie game development in Japan. It’s where Gero Blaster, the latest from Daisuke Amaya (best known for Cave Story and igniting the modern indie movement that has swept the word), was unveiled. Tiny Cartridge has the trailer in case you haven’t seen it.

There was also the video above; before Masaya Matsuura, Fumito Ueda, Goichi Suda, SWERY, and even Keita Takahashi rocked the Japanese game scene’s statue quo, you had Kenji Eno. Which is why a tribute in his memory was more than a fitting way to wrap up an event like BitSummit.

If you can, give any one of his games a spin if you haven’t done so already: D, Enemy Zero, D2, Newtonica, plus You, Me & The Cubes. Also, to learn more about the man and his legacy, be sure to check out the following write-ups in 1UP, Wired, and Kotaku.

In just three hours, the PlayStation 4 will be unveiled. And with it, we shall finally gaze into the face of gaming’s future. So what better time is there than the present, to look back at gaming’s past? And what better tour guide could there be than The BasedGod, aka Lil B?

Surely everyone reading this is familiar with the underground rap sensation. If not, has your internet been down since 2010? At any rate, he’s back with part three of his game collection, which is overflowing with ”classics” (here’s parts one and two for those out of the loop).

There’s so much to love about the video above. Like how he tells the other video games out there who have not been represented (and are therefore angry or depressed) to chill, cuz he has a long ways to go.

Also, note to self: when showing off my PS3 collection, it’s a good idea to break things up with the odd Sega CD or Saturn title. Plus I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can now enjoy a better night’s sleep, knowing that Lil B not only owns Nier but has also beaten it.

Another must watch, especially those who are unfamiliar with his music, is his ode to video games. The dude simply loves ‘em! Thanks for the head’s up Joe.

The first ever IndieCade East finally happens this weekend! For those of us who have gazed upon “the video game industry’s Sundance” from afar with longing eyes, because we can’t make it out to Culver City for whatever reason, our time is now.

The schedule looks jam packed with all manner of awesomeness. Tonight is the SPORTSFRIENDS panel, and tomorrow our very own Kris Piotrowski will present the keynote, Dark Days: A Harrowing Journey Through CAPY’s Secret Gameography.

Bedroom Developments: Making PlayStation Games in Your Underwear appears to be another excellent example. And, of course, there will be plenty of games to play as well. It all goes down at the Museum of the Moving Image; you can nab tickets here.
