The Metagame, the card game for people who love to discuss and argue about video games, has always been one of the more popular items in the Attract Mode shop. It’s also been sold out for quite some time, and I’m constantly asked when we’ll be getting more in. Well if you’re one such person, or better yet, a lucky owner of a deck already, take note: the game has been reborn!

Above are a few cards from the prototype deck that co-creator Eric Zimmerman was nice enough to pass along. And as you can tell, it’s not just about video games anymore, but culture as a whole. Yet it’s still about making ridiculous arguments with your pals.

And like so many awesome things that you just wish was in your hands right this second, those behind the scenes need just a little bit of your help to make it all happen. Eric and the rest of Local No. 12 have just launched a Kickstarter to fund the brand new edition. Details are all here, but real quick: the final deck will contain 250 cards covering everyone’s favorite culturally relevant artifacts that you’ll either have to advocate or tear apart.

And yes, video games are part of the mix. You can still see if your friend can build a case as to why Angry Birds is indeed better than Doom. As silly and as impossible such a task sounds.

The deck alone costs just $25, which is an absolute steal. I’m hoping everyone picks up a deck, or three, because I’d really like one of the proposed expansion sets. The classic games one is right up my alley, but so is the one on Star Trek… Anyways, the Kickstarter just launched and has 36 days to go, but don’t let a single one of them go to waste!

One of my favorite items, back when I used to write for GameSetWatch (God rest its soul) was Hatoful Boyfriend, an otome visual novel at women. But instead of cute/hot boys you date cute/hot pigeons. Here’s some additional info, straight from my original GSW post:

As a student at St. PigeoNation’s Institute, “the most splendid and greatest academy of the pigeon, by the pigeon and for the pigeon”, everything’s going as well as can be expected, at least for someone who’s the lone human at an all bird institution. Until you find yourself attracted to those feathered bodies you’re surrounded by. Thus the adventure of a lifetime begins.

And guess what? Hatoful Boyfriend is finally available in English! Actually, this might be old news; I’m only hearing about in now. Whatever. The best part is how you can nab it, alongside another doujin soft, for as little as $1.50 via the Let’s Build A Doujin Bundle 2.

The rest of the offerings don’t look half bad, including a few shumps that are highly reminiscent of Touhou Project. Alas, Ether Vapor Remaster plus the original Yatagarasu aren’t up for grabs; those were in Let’s Build A Doujin Bundle 1, sorry.

The other day I stumbled across the above, some oldies but goodies (over at 68k Heart on Fire, which is like the best thing ever). Pictures that had I originally seen via the digital pages of AMUSEMENT.

For those who aren’t familiar, it’s a high-end French fashion magazine that focuses on game culture. Their gorgeous spreads turned plenty of heads when the publication first hit the scene, around late 2008, if I’m not mistaken.

Though AMUSEMENT has been somewhat forgotten in recent years; my best guess is that everyone got frustrated with the lack of an English print edition, but I’ve always kept tabs. Helping quite a bit is how they began publishing content online to non-French speakers about a year or two ago.

And along the way, I’ve kept a personal collection of my favorite glamor shots, which I figure are worth sharing. Some you may have seen before, while others might be brand new. First we have some more from the photographer above, Jean-Yves Lemoigne. That top spread btw is from “Forever A Gamer”, and here we have selected shots from “Movers”

And finally, ”Coming of Age”, which was their tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th birthday…

… You’ll even find a non-photographic piece by our very own Cory Schmitz!
