Not The Kind Of Sexy Video Game Girl I Was Thinking Of

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

In this post:
1. Once again, tons and tons and TONS of pics of toys and figures and junk like that.

It’s been two weeks and there’s still pics from the New York Anime Fest that I’ve yet to share. BTW, I’m still getting really awesome feedback from folks who saw me at the show! Thanks to everyone for the kind words. :) Oh, and perhaps I should be spilling the beans, but it’s more or less a done deal that I’ll be returning for next year, though I have no idea what I’ll be doing; perhaps a mix of the old and the new? I hate to repeat myself, but the top ten list was a HUGE hit, and not everyone got to see it…

But that’s for another time. As for those pics, they’re actually from after the show, of stuff picked up. First we’ve got the latest from Ryusuke Hamamoto…

… Again, it’s a bit depressing that the dude’s never swamped with adoring fans every time I’ve seen him at the New York Anime Fest or Comic Con. Anyhow, his latest collection is like this others, filled with cute drawing of cute girls, most of whom are fairly recognizable. Like the latest star of the Evangelion franchise…

A con is also the place to pick up figures, and I pretty much thought I had hit the jackpot when I saw a table filled with these…

… Not only that, this particular seller had clearly indicated what the contents were inside, so no blind shopping! The only I’ve been longer for years now had been Akira, the cool biker chick, which I quickly snatched up. But because they had several other characters that I dug, I picked them up too, though I was less than thrilled with what were actually insides their respective boxes once I got home…

… With the exception of Sakura, both Akira and Kyoko Minazuki, who?s the woman in the middle, are sporting their alternate, player two colors. Which isn’t so bad for Akira, since only the elbow and kneepads are different, but Kyoko is supposed to be a nurse, which across far more clearly via her player one colors. Oh well.

Then there’s this…

… I’ve known about Axes-Jong for some time now, or at least have been familiar with the game’s box art…

… As well as the knowledge that it was a product of Psikyo, so I simply assumed that it was shump starring sexy girls. But upon further investigation, I would discover that it’s actually a sexy mahjong title?

Anyhow, since it’s been a while, how about a return visit to the wacky world of custom toys and figures? And sticking with the area of video games…

- For starters, ever hear of Esc-Toy’s Soopa Coin-Up Bros?

… It’s a totally customizable mini arcade cabinet/vinyl toy that can lead to much in the right hands…

… Too bad Esc-Toy stopped producing these in 2008. They’re seriously missing out by having these readily available for artists to this very day.

- Another Aegis kit is on the way, this one based upon her in FES

… The armor here looks MUCH cooler that I remembered. But then again, I actually didn’t get very far in FES, so perhaps I missed the good stuff? Metis is also getting the same treatment as one can see, but I could honestly care less about her.

- Hey, you know the Teddie statue I got not too long ago? Well Tomopop not surprisingly gave a fairly extensive run-down of the little guy.

- This made some headlines when it first hit the scene, but for those who might have missed them, check out this awesome Shadow of the Colossus Munny!

- Speaking of Munnies, here’s one of Maxwell from Scribblenauts

- On a related note, here’s Earthworm Jim in the form of a Mighty Mugg

- How cute, My Little Ponies from Silent Hill!

- Check out this insanely beautiful statue of KOS-MOS from Xenosaga. Good God!

- For you KOF XII fans out there… all six of you… statues of both Elizabeth Blanctorche and Mature are on their way…

- Though the real reason why that game sucks is pretty much known to all: it doesn’t have Mai Shiranui. But at least one can own a statue of her, based upon her Maximum Impact appearance, which happens to be on sale at the moment

… And while you’re at it, why not pick up a Lilith as well?

- Meanwhile, back to SNK, you have the far lesser known Suzuhime Gemaga from the upcoming Samurai Showdown: Edge of Destiny

… I forget if she’s from another Samurai Showdown game. Doesn’t matter, she’s still nowhere as hot as that one maid with the large knives. I forget her name, as well as which game she was in, otherwise I’d pull up pictures.

- And yet another fight related thing: a state featuring my fave character from Street Fighter Alpha 3…

- Courtesy of GameSetWatch, a few out there might recall some very wacky custom made Mega Man figures some time ago. Well, somewhat along the same lines comes the rest of the gang

… I’m particularly fond of Gutsdozer…

… Same guy also has a few custom Soopa Coin-Ups (any Yo! Noid fans in the house?), and a King Hippo…

… Now sure if I like that one or this more…

… BTW, the dude from the first set of Mega Man mods just did some custom made Dead Rising figures.

- And via Tiny Cartridge, from Capcom’s booth at the Tokyo Game Show, here’s we have the two stars from the DS version of Okami

- Going even further back, I’m talking this past summer, here’s a bunch of pics from Comiket 76. Which has been covered fairly extensively, though I’ve yet to see anyone else harp on this excellent shot of the special edition Thunder Force 5 ships in their pre-colored glory…

… So the set includes the Gauntlet, the Vambrace, and the Brigandine attachment? SWEET.

- Speaking off, the creators of Shooting Game Historica have something new up their sleeves, this time involving famous (or at the very least, somewhat recognizable) mecha from games called the SR Video Game Robotics series!

… I must admit, as drool-worthy has they are, I have to wonder how tough they are to put together; the last round of Shooting Game ships were a total bitch to piece together. Still, that Border Break one looks insanely hawt.

- Back to the Comiket 76 rundown by Akiba Hobby, here’s a pic of Myon from Touhou Project, which I believe Tomopop once featured (can’t seem to find the article in question)…

… For whatever reason, Touhou girls are the new hot thing

- Semi-related, here we have a statue based off a character from some eroge title called Beat Blades. Never heard of it, but I guess that’s not really important right now…

- The last time I went over toys and statues and the such, I also mentioned the just happened Wonder Festival, in which an awesome Range Murata-ish figure was highlighted, which turned out to be based on character from show that he’s involved in! Well, turns out, there was a second rendition of the same character at the same event, and even though I still prefer the first one still, the second one ain’t too shabby looking either

- Did anyone else pre-order the limited edition V.I.N.CENT. from the Black Hole from Mindstyle last month?

… I would have nabbed it up, even at the asking price of $130, if not for the fact that the colors are all wrong. For that much, you gotta be accurate, sorry.

- Unfortunately, I’m also late in mentioning of the totally awesome Pandara…

… Which came out last month for the far more reasonable price of $40. But alas, it’s all sold out.

- At least one still has a chance to nab the upcoming the world’s smallest Blaster and Shockwave

… I’m actually already the proud owner of the world’s smallest Soundwave, and it’s pretty neat. My mind is kinda blown that they were able to get that much detail for Shockwave.

- I’m totally into animu girls with headphones (it’s hard to explain, I might try later), and would totally get this, if not for the fact that she’s practically naked…

… Nice touch with the cake though!

- For those who enjoy animu and golf

- Yet another Strike Witch statue is on the way! This one of the very annoying in the show Lynette Bishop

- Coming very soon, in time for the Halloween season, to Kid Robot

- And remember those Daft Punk Kubricks that I also mentioned before? They’re finally available for pre-order, but they’re gonna cost… get this… $2,660. No joke. Also, holy sh*t.

But going back to Halloween for a sec, I really wanted Katie and I to dress up as them this year, but those helmets would be tough to re-create properly. But maybe all I need to do is contact this guy

- I’m sure most folks are familiar with the lucky cat from Japan, yes? Well, here’s something a tiny bit different

- Back to shows, the All Japan Plamodel Hobby Show recently went down, and here’s a bunch of pics from the affair, including the PG 00 Raiser Gundam, which I’m seriously eyeing as my very first Mobile Suit kit…

… Yeah, believe it or not, despite my love for giant robots from Japan, I’ve yet to own a Gundam model myself. Why this one in particular? I just really dig the ship that comes part of the package…

Here’s some more! Including some Virtual On…

… Border Break…

… And Lost Planet…

- And here we have coverage from Treasure Festa, which just went down…

… Is she from a Touhou Project title as well? At least I know these two are..

… And does anyone recognize this girl? She’s also from a game, right?

- Finally, what rundown of statues of animu girls is complete without a mention of Rei Ayanami from Evangelion as a cat girl?
