PAX Prime 2010

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

You would think that I would have been to the Penny Arcade Expo (the original, now dubbed PAX Prime) by now, considering how I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest. Nope! Well that all changes this year, at long last…

I’m finally making my way to the Emerald City for what has become the preeminent celebration of video games on the behalf of Attract Mode! Myself and Adam are hoping to make as big a splash as we did in Boston, and are fairly confident, considering all the new stuff we’ll have at the table this time, including a bunch of new zines from Japan (plus THREE: FORT90ZINE‘s long awaited AM debut), a bunch of new prints (including one from the gf, Katie Skelly), and a ultra hawt Killer 7 tee by Cory Schmitz that I’ve wanted to talk about for ages now!

Like before, we’ll be located in the band land area, near all the musical acts, and will again be sharing the table with the fine folks at 2 Player Productions. For information relating to the show itself, the homepage is a great place to start!

SXSWi Take 2

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Last year I asked for everyone’s help to get a pal of mine’s SXSWi‘s panel approved, mostly cuz I was going to take part by sharing my internet dating horror stories (as well as triumphs) with a lecture hall full of strangers at a tech conference in Texas. Well, it got the necessary number of thumbs up, but things did not go according to play and I was not able to participate.

Well, this time I plan on doing the same, but by myself! Though I must humbly beg for everyone’s assistance yet again. The panel is called "Internet Dating: The Wild West That Once Was" and once more, I’ll discuss how far the overall concept, attitudes, and actual means of finding love (or casual sex) on the internet has changed over the past ten years. More information, including what one must due to cast their vote, right over here.

FORT90 X Babycastles

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Partly due to the smash success of my zine release party in early May, the boys at Babycastles have asked me to come back and run another show. And this time, I’m bringing along a friend…

Phil Fish, of Fez fame, is coming to NYC and bringing with him his stereoscopic, head-tracking take on Tetris, Super Hypercube! Plus, I’ve handpicked five other games that are sure to knock your socks off. Provided you love rescuing animals, dating crippled girls, and the best damn mine-cart racing/sandwich making/dating sim ever crafted. Oh, and my very good friend Glomag will also be on-hand to make you dance your ass off.

Get ready for FORT90 X BABYCASTLES! For all the details, just hit this blog post and marvel at the absolutely gorgeous flyer, courtesy of Dave Mauro!
