New York Comic Con 2010

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

This year, the New York Comic Con and the New York Anime Fest are merging to form a super colossal celebration of comics, cartoons, movies, toys, anime, manga, cosplay, and video game, the likes of which NYC has never seen. Until now. And the best part? I’ll be part of the action!

Once again, I will be running some panels, which aims to both entertain and educate! My schedule for this year is…

- The Best & Worst Games From Japan That You’ve Never Heard Of (Saturday, Oct 9th, 7:45PM-8:45PM)
– How To Get A Job In Video Games (Sunday, Oct 10th, 10:45AM-11:45AM)

… Please stop on by, it’s sure to be just as ruckus as my presentations last year! In fact, I guarantee it. Event details can be found at the NYCC/AF homepage.

The Babycastles Manhattan Kickstarter

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

That’s the very last day one can help bring the arcade back to Times Square, as well as help give The Big Apple a much needed dose of game culture, via Babycastles Manhattan!

For those who haven’t heard, the little indie arcade in the basement of Silent Barn that could is getting ready to bring their indie gaming magic to the island, but some serious financial assistance is desperately needed. At least $6,000, though realistically, the more the merrier. And where exactly is this money going towards? To help produce a series of shows that is guaranteed to blow minds of both diehard gaming aficionados and the average Joe walking down 42nd Street (who will not know what hit him). Included in the line-up are two events that I will be curating! The first is a collaboration with my fine friends at Attract Mode, and the second is in conjunction with a man who helped jumpstart the game development scene that has becoming so thriving here in NYC, Eric Zimmerman!

No dollar amount is too small, so please considering donating to this legitimately groundbreaking cause! The Kickstarter can be found here. EDIT: for those who haven’t passed along a contribution, now is the time, and here’s the reason why.

SPX 2010

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

After a year’s absence, myself and Katie Skelly will be returning to the Small Press Expo with a vengeance! The gf will have not only one, but TWO new additions of Nurse Nurse. And that’s since MoCCA earlier this year; if you count SPX, I think it’s like three, maybe four installment! And I’ll be representing Attract Mode once again, with a fine selection of zines and prints leading the pack (it is a comic show after-all).

Please stop by, and buy some stuff as well! Remember, this is a fine chance to pick up everything you’ve always wanted to order via mail, but without those pesky shipping charges. Plus I might have a show exclusive item or two! You can find out more about the show by heading straight towards its webpage.
