Flatlands

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Just one month later, I’m curating yet another event at Babycastles Manhattan (crazy, I know), but this one is something completely different…

As usual, it’s about games… not the kind you play on a TV or your iPhone, but the type that rests flat on a table, surrounded by yourself and your pals, along with a deck of cards or perhaps some dice. Yup, it’s a board game, but not just any; this one that uses boards from various other games. It’s called FLATLANDS and is somewhat difficult to explain, you kinda need to see (and play) it for yourself. The most important thing to know is that it’s a brand new collaboration between Eric Zimmerman, easily one of the most influential and important figures in the world of NYC game development, and world-renowned architect Nathalie Pozzi!

And to help make the opening extra special, my good friend Chris Burke will be performing again, along with Tamara Yadao as Foci+Loci, which creates improvised soundscapes via custom created levels in Halo 3 and LittleBigPlanet. Again, this is a truly unqiue evening for those who love games of all kinds. For more info, please refer to the Facebook event page.
