Its Official: I’m Writing A Book

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Some might recall me eluding to big news earlier in the week, and even though I have been telling close friends and associates over the past few weeks as things were taking shape, I didn’t want to make a formal announcement until the deal was actually done. Though truth be told. things are still not truly 100%, but I have spoken with the publisher and have agreed to the terms, so its basically 99.9999% (I sign the contract on Tuesday).

So yeah, I’m writing a book! Its basically an introduction to game design, and more or less built upon the class I teach at SVA, though it should be much more. I’ve actually been preparing for the project since mid-December, which is when Allworth Press first approached me about penning a proposed text book on the subject of video games.

I plan on start writing in early February (once I return from my trip back to Washington, which will be in two weeks from today) and should be done by late summer, and if things stay of their proposed tracks, the manuscript should see publication in either the spring or summer of 2007.

There’s much more to tell, but I’ve got a billion things to do right now, so I’ll just leave it at that. But yeah… it’s been on helluva week.

whats gonna be on the cover?

Not sure… I imagine something arty-farty, like Da-Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, but with Mario instead, but that’s not too original, is it?

Fuck it, I’ll just put Hard Gay on the cover and just call it a day.

How about calling it “Matt Hawkins Loves Video Games”, and the cover can just be a cartoon picture of you and many famous video game characters.

    I’d buy that.
