Hey, It’s President Obama And Star Fox’s Girlfriend, Part 1

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

So… it’s 1/11/11, I guess time for an update?

Things have been all over the place; am somewhat in a state of limbo to be exact. First off, a few projects that were on hold due to the holidays have yet to get started again, which has been frustrating. The reasons are numerous, and a few are simply unknown to me (which too has been frustrating). I’m guessing this latest snowstorm that just hit NYC won’t be helping matters much.

Am trying my best to keep busy, like lots of behind the scenes stuff for Attract Mode in recent days, all of it I can’t wait to make public! In due time. Also finally updated Mecha Damashii for the first time in ages. But for the most part, it’s been a waiting game.

Hence why I finally found the time to do something I haven’t in a long ass time; compose another series of patented mega epic game related link/image dumps. For months my TextEdit document where I toss random links has gotten way out of control. To be honest, I only got through about 40% of the stuff listed.

Case in point; you’ll find zero links relating to Tiny Cartridge, GameSetWatch, and Easter Mind. Mostly due to how I assume everyone hits those sites religiously as I do! Or at least I hope so… Anyhow, here’s the best of the rest from all other corners of the web, which many might have overlooked. Some of it is old, way old, yet still worth checking out.

Especially since I have a feeling that many will not be going to work tomorrow, due to all the fresh white powder! Though as usual, feel free to just scroll down and simply absorb all the pretty pictures…

- At the very top of the list of stuff I’ve been meaning to pass along; those who follow my Twitter might recall me losing my shit over a crappy Village Voice piece about the top five arcades in NYC. For those who missed it, here ya go. Again, the choice for number one makes Baby Jesus cry.

- Related: in New York, we have Barcade, and in Australia, they have Mana Bar. Any Aussies reading this care to share a report?

- In my last post, the best of 2010, I totally forgot to mention the one game I’m looking forward to most in 2011, aka the best news of last year as well: Radiant Silvergun coming to XBLA!!! And yes, I want the stick.

- Forgot to also mention the one game I want the most, but which will never come out in these part: Gal Gun. You know, the FPS where you have to fend yourself against horny teenage girls? But hey, that’s what the panic button is for.

- Coming in at third place would have to be Tokyo Jungle, the game in which everyone has died in Japan and all that remains are a bunch of house pets and I guess zoo creatures…

- And if I had to chose the biggest news item that no one gave a rat’s ass about, for a variety of reasons, it would have to be, again from TGS, how Kojima might go ahead and make Metal Gear Solid 5. But he already did! It’s called Peace Walker; PS3 port please.

- I really wish I could have gone to that show. If only for the snazzy Capcom snacks…

- Here’s some highlights from a Tokyo CGM Night from this past June, noteworthy for this…

- I’ve featured the following before (super sexy models of the Silpheed ship and White Glint from Armored Core 4), but check out these somewhat recent pics from Wonfes Winter 2010

- On a related note, check out this awesome paper craft Vic Viper from Gradius 5!

… You can even make your own; a download link can be found here.

- Sticking with Gradius ship, I’m pretty sure I passed along a few Lego Vic Vipers a while ago. Well, the numbers have grown considerably

- Back to Danny; I really love this post that recounts his love for Japan, mostly due to the first object of his affection…

- He also covers Akihabara like no one else; whether it be detailing it’s history, or simply highlight the back alleyway treasure troves. Fingers crossed that those Doki Doki Majo Shinpan goods will still there when I finally make it out there. Along with Touhou soda…

… Getting a vintage copy of Weekly Famitsu, seen here, also sounds cool!

- Check out these insanely cute Taiko no Tatsujin toys from McDonald’s

Via his Figure.fm outlet are highlights from Wonfes Summer 2010, part 1 and part 2

- Hey, some more Armored Core…

- Though the one thing that got me the excited was the Figma Metis, which I have to get cuz I already have Aegis!

- Speaking of Persona, Aegis as a cat and a bunny?

- Hatsune Miku X that Sony cat in Japan?

- Even though I’m not the biggest Valkyria Chronicles fan, this Alice figure is too good to resist…

- I also don’t dig Monster Hunter, but I do love those cats!

- And at the summer Comiket, the next round of Video Game Robotics was unveiled. At this point, I’m only interested in the Gun Griffon one, thank you very much.

- Check out Suda 51 promoting No More Heroes 2 in Japan with… toilet paper?

- Did anyone ever pick up Next Gen Warz, a comic about the console wars, as personified as scantily clad women?

- On a related note, you guys know that Sega recently released a game that’s essentially like SEGAGAGA, but more moe-ed out, right? And for those of you who don’t know what that game’s all about…

For more info on Neptune, Canned Dogs has a neat little cheat sheet (also with some bonus Metal Gear Solid fan service).

- BTW, I love that place. Cuz otherwise, I would never know that hentai games have begun to incorporate Twitter, how it’s a tough marketplace it compete in as well, or how MMA fighters are dressing up as Touhou characters

- Though the best part is of course hearing about doujin-soft, like Lunaria, New Super Marisa Land, and something called BBB2. Unfortunately, as the second link proves, you often have to download stuff while it’s hot, otherwise it’ll be long gone. Apologizes also to Eric and Simon if they’ve perviously

But back to that second link; has anyone else heard of Corpse Party? The various clips found on the homepage certainly looks interesting.

- And back to Touhou Project, and Kotaku of all places; have you heard about the disgraced comic actor that recently starred in a music video for a tribute album? Too bad the author failed to make the connection between the man and the character he’s dressed up as (which is from Shoot The Bullet, somewhat funny given that he’s a peeping tom).

- OMG, it’s the creator of Pac-Man (Toru Iwatani) with the original concept sketches for Pac Man!

- Sticking to the back in the day, check out this detailed rundown of a kid’s book from Japan that shows how Nintendo makes their games!

- Lady Gaga in Super Street Fighter 4? I WISH.

… Found in a NeoGAF thread that’s all about wild and wacky video game fan art. Lots of old faves that have been around the block (like this blog) are present, along with some new gems. Like…

- Their official game art threads are always worth checking out, especially this one, featuring behind the scenes assets from SF4. Too bad the final product isn’t nearly as pretty (looks damn near SF3 to me)…

- And don’t forget wacky bootlegs from Asia

- I’ve also featured Junkboy’s “demakes” in the past. Well here’s a fairly comprehensive look at his work, include some keen new pieces…

Dude also is a kick-ass illustrator as well…

- Though here’s a demake that one is actually able to play; Super Smash Bros as a Game Boy title!

- Via McSweeny: 7 things Mario has in common with Jesus.

- Via the always informative Things To Do In LA: a not so typical Mario shirt spotted at Anime Expo last summer…

Along with these ultra cute Servbot puppets

At long last, I finally know now the dude behind this classic image

… That’s it for part 1! YES, THERE’S MORE!!!
