How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Hopefully some quality time was spent with friends and family, either at the dinner table or in front of a TV. Preferably with some sort of game controller in everyone’s hands, in the case of the latter.

Perhaps copious amounts of delicacies were consumed as well (along with, once again, a fair number of games over the holiday weekend). If not, I happen to have an extra large helping of game related Instagram pics for everyone to nibble on.

Kicking things off, from two Friday nights ago, we have the first public playtest of Super Beatdown Academy, which took place at a pub in the East Village, in Manhattan. It’s a brand new fighting game that’s initially slated for iOS.

It was super early, yet playable nontheless. It’s basically a fighting game with elements of rock, paper, scissors baked in…

Two “Freshman Builds” were on hand. One was playable via arcade sticks, which I found difficult to grasp. But the other, with NES controllers connected, was when I finally “got” it…

Super Beatdown Academy is being built by a bunch of NYU and SVA students, whenever they have the time between normal class commitments, and is the first game for many of those involved. But even at this super early stage, they seem to have their stuff together.

In addition to a nice laundry list of features to add plus refinements to look forward to, the game has a fairly awesome backstory and super cool art style to look forward to…

Basically, everyone is a high school student, all duking it out. And anything that’s reminiscent of Rival Schools is an A+ in my book…

Moving on, last time I did one of these Instagram pic dumps was right before Halloween. So here we have someone performing at the Halloween edition of Pulsewave, dressed up as a Katamari cousin, courtesy of Note!

Remember Jenn de la Vega‘s work in progress BMO costume from previous posts? Well the finished product, and on stage, courtesy of Diego Garcia

If you enjoy fine chiptunes photography, Marjorie Becker’s Instagram feed is a definite must follow. Here we have Goferboy, seen through her lens, from the most recent Pulsewave a few weeks back…

Meanwhile, up until fairly recently, various folks from Blip Tokyo were still kicking it Japan. Including Nullsleep; here he is scoping out Famicoms in some random game shop in Den-Den Town…

On a related note, and via DJ MasterKOHTA: an example of what kind of capsule toys you’ll find at Cafe La Siesta…

Sticking to Japan, DCharlieJP, one of the many colorful gaijin that I have become aquatinted with over the years has advice for all parents out there: “Starting them young! Start em on easy with [Mushihime-sama] Black Label Maniac!”

Then there’s John Ricciardi, who in the following picture explains: “Whenever I go through this tunnel, I get this strange urge to play Phantasy Star I”

John was also the first person on my Instagram feed to get an iPad Mini. And the first thing he put on his brand new toy? BTW, John also runs 8-4 Ltd, which translates Japanese games into English, or vice versa in this case…

Semi-related: Jim Guthrie proves that Sword & Sworcery makes technology look pretty, both new and old…

Here’s a terrific image that Eric shared on Tiny Cartridge, which I’ll simply cross-post here…

Along those same lines is this tender moment that Kimika S, aka pintendo64 is sharing with both her dog and Pokemon…

Speaking of moments, here’s one of total triumph, from the Kacho himself, courtesy of my bro Joe Salina

Victory once again, in form of two DVDs. Containing the final edited version of Minecraft: The Story of Mojang from Asif & company, off to the printer. Not to brag, but I’ve seen the final cut and it is amazing

Chris Furniss has been posting all the custom painted NES cartridges and consoles he’s been producing for Kickstarter backers for 31 Days of Zero Suit Samus

Along with this swell piece of fan art, in the form of a custom figure…

Robert Schmuck presents the back side of everyone’s favorite robot helper from Nintendo. It’s actually the back cover of the 6th issue of his comic from Japan…

Jessica Hulett recently shared her Chinese fortune cookie, which proves that Super Mario Bros references is as ubiquitous as the wisdom of Confucius…

It’s Joe Teach giving an old Mega Drive (or Genesis to us Americans) some much needed TLC…

Again from Joe; I don’t know why, but there’s something about this picture of old Game Boy accessories that I really love…

Speaking of Game Boys, here’s Milo Bonacci custom built Game Boy that’s about as analogue as you can get…

Trashberry is a Scandinavian fellow who, among other things, has good taste in shirts…

Speaking of clothing, and from Trashberry once more; ÆTER is a Copenhagen record shop that sells threads and also contains an arcade…

It’s a bit after the fact, I know, but I only recently started following Rebecca Sugar and just saw this amazing Dreamcast birthday cake…

Speaking of pastries, I have no idea what this picture from Johnny Cupcakes is all about…

And while on the topic of Sonic, Lamar Abrams decided to draw a whole bunch the other night…

Robert Mangaoang is an artist who I’ve only recently become aware of. And his game-related work is definitely something everyone should become more familiar with…

Here we have Cory trying to come up with Twilight Princess ideas…

Cory also picked up a Wii U recently; here’s his gal pal Alexis making a Mii of herself…

I’m not usually someone who’s big into following celebrities on Twitter, though SWERY is definitely an exception to that rule…

It’s Commander Video, spotted in the wild…

As noted earlier, we just had Thanksgiving in my neck of the woods. Meaning the Macy’s parade, which is chock full of video game references. Rich Zimmer, an old college chum of mine, had a nice view of the action…

As for myself, I spend every Thanksgiving with my best bud Dave Roman and his family in Long Island. And each year, he unearths some artifact from Sega’s glorious past, which he passes along to me (since his mom is forever pestering him to clean out his old bedroom and he has way too much stuff in his apartment as is)…

Oh, in case anyone is interested, I’ve been playing Persona 4 Golden like crazy and am using my own Instagram feed to keep everyone abreast of my love life in Inaba. It’s been called everything from “an insightful look at how one person views and approaches the game” to “borderline offensive and downright creepy”

While on the subject of dating in games, one bona fide sensation (at least among the people I follow) is the Boyfriend Maker app for iOS, which everyone loves posting screenshots from. Here we have my pal Colleen AF Venable getting hitting on by her new virtual boy toy…

K, enough with the creepy stuff, and time for something heartwarming, courtesy of Ted and his Fireplace app…

Droz, a very fine chap whom I’m e-buddies with, recently alerted me of the pending arrival of a brand new arcade, again in my neck of the woods. Could be interesting…

Time to wind things down with yet another mention of the LA Game Space Kickstarter! And while I’m super pumped about Keita Takahashi’s brand new game, there’s something else in the LA/GS Game Pack that I’m slightly more interested in. And believe it or not, it’s not the Pen Ward/Bennett Foddy colab. Instead, what I’m really looking forward to is Angie Wang ‘s surreal horror interactive fiction…

… Be sure to follow the LA Game Space Instragram feed, for yet another means to keep abreast of all the amazing things that Adam and Daniel has in store. Anyhow, let’s wrap things up with a little something from Elliot Trinidad. Not just a picture, but a story to go along with it. Enjoy…
