Okay, a bunch of stuff…
- First off, some sad news: as everyone knows, cinema virtuoso Robert Altman passed away earlier today. The man is responsible for some the best films that have ever been produced in America, including Nashville, MASH, the Player. Short Cuts, and… Popeye. Yes I said it, Popeye. Pop-fucking-eye. One of the most underrated films from the past twenty plus years. And I don’t give a fuck what anyone says, it’s awesome!
- Got another bit of bad news this morning: neck and neck with Simon Carless for the title of “game journalist that everyone knows and loves”, Matthew Willamson, aka ShaperMC, the creator of The Gamer’s Quarter, is sick with smallpox. Yeah… hard to believe, but people still get it in this day and age. Here’s hoping you get better Matt! Remember, you still owe me a visit to NYC and a beer with myself, Mike O’Connor and Steve Totilo! Don’t die dude!
- Okay, so I’m way behind with all the video game related headline, due to being involved in like five major things all at once, most of which are all coming to head right about now, thank God, so I haven’t had a chance to check out all the PS3 and Wii chatter/fall-out. But as always, my attention is constantly focused on stuff under the wire, such as how…
The Senko No Ronde thread over at NeoGAF was bumped yet again, and once more I was sadden to see that there’s still no word of a US release. Instead, someone passed along word that new costumes were added to the marketplace. Yay. At least someone also posted yet another vid of the game in action, this one featuring said new outfits, and I don’t think I’ll ever grow tired looking at it.
- Also, I recently got word via Insert Credit of the possible existence of a Rez arcade unit that was prototyped by Sega and Namco, at least according to this site. Though according to at least one diehard arcade rat that frequents the IC: “Either this is the first I’ve ever heard of it or the article is lying. That cab was made for an unfinished Starblade sequel and didn’t make it out until Namco put out that Gundam game whose name I can’t remember.”
- So I had heard before that diehard comic book geeks are actually way worse than diehard video game geeks. And earlier today, K Thor totally proved that theory correct by presenting an argument concerning Supergirl’s hymen.
- Though swinging back to video game end of the scale for batshit insanity, here’s a site that James Edwards (who’s new GSW column I’m really digging) passed along that features shitty Mega Man fan art depicting all the robot bosses if they were pregnant (obviously, NSFW). I mean, come on…
- James is also the guy that passed along to the denizens of the IC this mind-numbingly insane vid from the new Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Xbox 360 and PS3 (careful, its contains a major spoiler). It more than anything else is the conclusive proof that the character that many of us grew up with and learned to love is totally and absolutely DEAD.
For those who are brave and want to check out the entire ending, here’s part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, and part 6, part 7. The whole thing is like the shittiest Sonic fan-fic ever conceived made to be real. And rarely has something so retarded and so creepy come together so effectively.
- And a quick stroll to the front page reveals a look at some bizarre looking and rather novel sounding game from Japan for the Wii called Necro-Nesia. Basically, you fight really huge bugs on an island.
- Veering towards “real life” but just a creepy: check out Faith the “miracle dog” (WARNING: not for the faint of hear, especially dog lover… the video is liable to make you go insane, seriously).
- And hey, time for something that’s not creepy but actually really neat! It’s the official homepage for a wacky new wacky romantic comedy from Korea called Cyborg. It also happens to be seriously one of the nicest web pages I’ve ever seen. Problem is.. Mac users will have an almost impossible time checking it out. Its totally not Safari compatible, and it won’t open in Firefox at work, but it does at home (though for whatever reason, my shitty home G4 kicks my work’s G5 for a variety of things… don’t ask me why). But if you’re on a PC, you have to check it out. Oh, and the movie looks interesting too.
For you Mac people, here’s a small glimpse of what you’re missing…
… it’s basically a fully interactive, virtual pop-up book. You just have to see it for yourself.
- Finally, my latest Weekly World News vid is finally live.
Gotta give credit to Mike Simses once again for making me look all creepy as well. And well, I am supposed to be a furry…
