As I said, the thing that bugs me about game collectors is that they're like comic book collectors, in the sense that they don't even enjoy what they profess to cherish, since it would "de-value" the games. Granted.... I hate used games due to a variety of reasons, but still...

I guess the main reason for the hate is because I fell into that trap at one point, with comics. I would either not touch a comic in fears of losing it's "mint" quality, or I'd buy multiple copies of one issue, assuming it would be worth money. Not only did that prove to be a stupid train of thought (which many others followed as well... which as we all know led to the crash in the mid-ninties) but I ended up wasting so much money and energy. And the bottom-line is that I simply ceased to enjoy my hobby due to my fixation with the "value" of my collection.

I do have a video game collection based purely on my taste, but most importantly, it all games that I personally enjoy, meaning I play them, Actually, I do have a few games for systems that I don't own, but again, its for my own personal reasons, because I like the designers or something (I'm pretty certain that my copy of SIlpheed for the Mega CD isn't worth that). I also have a few games that aren't opened, doubles of favorite games that are now hard to find, but they're just for friends to have later down the road when they catch up on systems.

The thing that bothers me the most about collectors is that they trick themselves into justifying their collection as an "investment" and react to anything that threatens its value as if it's stealing from them.

They need to take an economics course so the professor can smack them around until they comprehend what investment actually means.
