Yeah, it made even the almight Nintendo recognize the importance of having the ability to play older games, even for a "failed" system such as the GameCube.

And yes, most people who have a PS2 may not necessarily spend as much time with their PSone library, but such a move is important to convince parents that their kid's current game collection, which they the parent were the ones who spent all the money on, won't go to waste. But then again, many hardcore gamers seem to forget that its parents that are buying the bulk of the systems during the holidays, which determines a system's longterm health.

Plus, as I've said before, I only have so many inputs on my TV.

Nice summating of the most abysmal E3 in ages. I really think besides the stupid Backwards Compatibility fiasco Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot with the complete abadoning of Xbox. Hell Sony managed to support PSOne for the longest time into PS2's launch. It is just common sense to not dicth all the people who supported you for so long.

"Anyone remember the B.S. about the PS2 being able to render all the special effects for Episode 1 or being classified as a super computer and therefore it being ?too dangerous? to get in the hands of the Chinese or Saddam Hussein? Well, I guess it officially begins?"

I also recall claims that it could render FF: The Spirits Within. Anyways, because of all the shit I bought into with the PS2 I just don't/can't belive anything so far about the PS3. PSP dropped tons of functions, and half of the ones available can't be used. The PSX droped about 1/3 of its functions. Most of this info was not released until just before release too. Then there is that thing in the back of my head screaming "That killzone video will let you down, don't belive it."
