Anyway, onto Steve’s question… first off, it’s a good one. And I really wish I had some other brilliant answer other than “just because”.

All it comes down to is categorization. Sorta how the shooter genre is basically games in which you pilot a ship and shoot things, but not first person shooters, even though you do the same basic thing (and hell, the word shooter is even in the name).

For example, Smackdown vs Raw is a wrestling game, not a fighting game. Granted, the two have very much in common: each features hand to hand combat among two characters, in which victory is determined by dishing out offensive maneuvers to the opponent directly (often special combinations, or special “moves” are utilized), plus there’s rules (like number or rounds) and a time limit to adhere to. But since wrestling games has it’s own specialized aspects that separates it from traditional fighting games, like creating a specialized character, representations of real life individuals and abilities, in-depth story telling, and the such, that it makes it a bit unfair to stack them against a regular fighter. If you go purely by features alone, a game like Smackdown blows away Street Fighter 3, which is non-sensical to say the least.

It’s a shame they made these announcements so early. In doing so they’ve disqualified Sid Meier’s Pirates! and World of WarCraft, which are both releasing next week for the PC. (The XBox release of Pirates! is slated for next Spring at last check.)

Regarding eNerGy, I hope you at least make it for GNG Friday night. Barring any major disasters, I’ll be there…
