Midnight Launch Of A Halo Game That Came Out 5 Years Ago, Through The Eyes Of Some Obscure Pittsburgh Cable Access Show (From The Attract Mode Archive: #021)

NOTE: The video that was originally here has been removed from YouTube. :(

In addition to video games, I’m also way into cable access. And along with my obsession with the scene here in NYC (high on my list of stuff to do is update that Tumblr; been way too long), I’m always looking for interesting stuff from other parts of the country. And one favorite find of mine is Splendid Recipes.

It was a short lived show from the suburbs of Pennsylvania and was an intoxicating mix of sketches, old home movies, found footage, and improvised nonsense that results from sheer boredom. Though their very best would have to be the segment above, of the Halo 3 midnight launch (which I guess is somewhat topical, since Halo 4 just came out).

I love it when dorky white guys, filming themselves screwing around, becomes fine art. It’s really not too far removed from what you’ll see screened at the MoMA these days. Admittedly, it’s also somewhat hard to make out; a problem that doesn’t exist on their DVD. Which I’ve maybe watched about a 100+ times thus far, and which I might be the sole owner of, outside of their group of friends.
