Hitler If He Was A Hipster Chick, aka The One That Got Away: New York Comic Con 2012 Part 3

by Matthew Edward Hawkins

Part one covered vinyl toys, figures, statues, stuff like that. Part two was all about video games, apparel, original artwork, and evertything in between.

So time for part three, which is about one thing and one thing only. Behold Teddie, the very first cosplay pic I took at New York Comic Con 2012…

Mega Man was well represented this year, and in various flavors, but X here was easily the most bad ass…

I love this guy, dressed as Kage-Maru from Virtua Fighter. Dude was super adamant that everyone knew how to say his character’s name correctly…

Sonic here, he was a super cool bro…

Not that Travis Touchdown or Bad Girl from No More Heroes is the most common sight, but they get around. Whereas Mimmy is especially rare…

Man, I really wish we had Viewtiful Joe 3, don’t you?

Perhaps the most awesome assortment of Street Fighter cosplayers that I’ve ever personally encountered…

Am happy that Noob Saibot’s popular again, thanks to the most recent installment of Mortal Kombat. Am also glad that the guy as smoke has decided not to copy the goofy new hairstyle from the same game…

Not far away was Scorpion with his spear in mid-motion…

Though the winner was clearly Sub-Zero…

I’ve had more than my fair share of Marios, but I can’t recall ever seeing someone as a Piranha Plant…

I absolutely love this black girl as NiGHTS…

Well, that’s one way to cosplay as Okami…

Found Dr. Wily, mulling about the D-Arts Mega Man figures, shockingly…

Believe it or not, there was quite a few Bastion cosplayers at the show! Here’s just one…

I really like it when people feel comfortable with themselves enough to cosplay, no matter the body type. Though it obviously helps if one’s physique is perfect for the role, like Sweet Tooth here…

Captain Olimar here was fairly rad…

As was this Pikmin couple, especially how they shut their own eyes for maximum effect…

No idea why none of these Links was wearing green. But no complaints here…

Again, it’s not often you see Oregon Trail depicted…

If I have to bitch about NYCC 2012, as it pertains to cosplay specifically, it would be anemic degree of Touhou Project representation. At least we got this…

In my book, more abstract the costume, the better. Like this girl who simply went as Duck Hunt, the entire game…

Fun-fact: Link is dating Chell, and here he is holding her Portal gun while she goes to the bathroom (that’s the actual story behind this pic)…

Moving on to excellent examples of non-game related costumes; this dude’s Macross get-up was totally boss…

It pisses me off that I forget the artist who’s the inspiration for this girl, given that I went to art school and everything…

Joel and the bots! BTW, has anyone ever cosplayed as Mike? Of course not, and that’s because Mike sucks!

Am a total sucker for handmade Iron Man suits…

And here we have another power couple, but from the DC Comics side of things…

I love how this guy’s Green Lantern get-up is about a zillion times better than what was in the film (clearly more time, money, and care was spent on it as well)…

It’s Doctor Doom with a pair of Sailor Scouts, for whatever reason…

Lady Lion-O…

Quorra’s outfit was very shiny…

Trust me, this guy (or girl) was way creepier in person…

Dave was not a fan of this particular interpretation of Hermione Granger (he hates how cosplay is becoming all scary and grotesque these days), but I thought it was nice and different…

There was a surprising number of Back To The Future cosplayers at the show (which I’m not complaining about, btw)…

This dude as Marty was simply the best, mostly due to his totally spot-on Michael J. Fox mannerisms…

I loved this guy and his pals on Sesame Street

How about this for a boyfriend/girlfriend get-up: Pinocchio and Stromboli…

Though I prefer mismatched couples more, like Leelo and Louis Tully…

Every year, this guy with the homemade Bumblebee suit shows up. And don’t get me wrong, it’s impressive! But I’ve also taken his pic about 50 times already, so here’s a nice back/crowd shot…

Speaking of Transformers, guess who I ran into in the artists alley…

Best approach to Leela I’ve seen thus far…

Meet lady Robocop (or Ms. Robocop, not sure which, if either)…

Alright, I know the following is going to piss some people off, even friends, but I can’t keep it in any longer: I kinda can’t stand Homestuck. Hey, I love bullsh*t insane stupidity on the internet, to a considerable degree, but it’s seriously the line in the sand for me.

So needless to say, this crowd of Homestuck cosplayers watching members of their own, act out favorite moments from the strips, or animated gifs, or whatever was more horrific than amusing (wasn’t able to get close enough, though to be totally honest, I didn’t try all that hard)…

Even though I thought the Woody Harrelson alien in Promethus was hella stupid, along with the rest of the movie, this guy’s take on him was mighty impressive…

Another movie that I didn’t like at all was The Dark Knight Rises, but at least it gave fat/bald dudes someone to be as well (this Bane was my fave, entirely due to the fact that he actually made his head gear, whereas everyone else’s was store bought)…

I came across not just one Dr. Slump…

… But two. Which do you prefer?

Spotted two different dudes as Master Roshis as well, but was only able to get this one…

Anyone who is familiar with previous cosplay rundowns is well aware of my affinity of candid, out of characters shots. And while not nearly as exciting as Solid Snake at the ATM or Captain American ordering a hot dog, Cobra Commander trying to use an iPad is still pretty funny in book…

Here’s a penguin, just chillin…

By far, the cutest couple of the entire weekend was Raggedy Andy and Anne…

Though overall, my favorite cosplayers might have been this Big Trouble In Little China lovin’ crew…

Last but not least, Raina with this absolutely terrifying bird headed super hero from self published comic that someone was trying to promote…

And is that it? That’s it. Unfortunately, there was one extra special cosplayer that I wish I had gotten a picture of, but simply had a brain fart and didn’t react fast enough. Which often happens when you see something truly mind-blowing.

In this case, it’s the one that’s been one mentioned in the title; there was cute as a button hipster chick with a Hitler mustache and a shirt that said “Death CampFor Cutie”. Trust me, you simply had to see it. But you can’t cuz I dun goofed! Sorry about that.
